Are travelers ready to trust the sharing economy?
Concerns from traditional lodging and transportation companies about the effects of the sharing economy are not unfounded. Travel insurance provider Allianz recently conducted a survey revealing that American travelers are becoming more familiar with and willing to use sharing services such as Airbnb, HomeAway, Uber and Lyft. In fact, the percentage of travelers likely to use these services more than doubled from last year, up to 36% in 2016. Unsurprisingly, Millennials are most likely to use sharing services (65%), and their awareness saw the greatest increase from 2015. And while 26% of Americans believe sharing economy companies provide a better value, this survey found that those with annual incomes over $50k are more likely to use them than those with lower incomes.
