Olympic Athletes Take to the Sea

Some of the U.S.'s biggest Olympics stars turn to cruise lines for Rio games housing

The United States’ men’s and women’s basketball teams will be anchored at sea during this summer’s Olympic games in Brazil. Two cruise ships accommodating Olympic guests will be in Rio’s port, one each from Silversea Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line. Spokesman for USA Basketball Craig Miller said, “We don’t stay in the village because we don’t feel it’s the best way to prepare for competition.” Additionally, basketball players nearing 7-ft. tall tend to pose a lodging issue no matter the accommodations offered. The rejuvenated port area also boasts the new Museum of Tomorrow at its center, a science museum designed by architect Santiago Calatrava. (Skift, 04.09.2016)
