Ford of the Future

Ford will spend at least $1B to make itself a cooler workplace

By 2023 Ford headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan will be greener and more modern as the auto giant attempts to recruit younger tech workers and foster new ideas. The full remodel will take up to ten years and will cost about $1 billion. The update runs parallel to Ford’s transition into an auto and mobility company, and the new campuses will feature eBikes, on-demand shuttles, autonomous vehicles, and walking paths. Ford’s new headquarters and product development center will employ 30,000 workers in an office culture similar to that of Silicon Valley start-ups, complete with open floor plans, meeting rooms, and food and coffee recharge stations. Competitor General Motors is undergoing similar improvements in nearby Michigan cities. (Forbes, 04.12.2016)
