"Terminal Tourists"

Airports are beginning to open their doors and their terminal offerings to non-travelers. These visitors still must pass a background check and go through security, but they no longer need a boarding pass to be allowed through to terminals. The purpose for these visits can range from spending additional time with traveling loved ones, plane watching or visiting the numerous attractions and activities within terminals. Airport offerings have broadened significantly, with many offering spas, microbreweries, gourmet restaurants, playgrounds and much more. Airport terminals can provide many hours of entertainment for locals in this way. Airports are seeing large numbers of non-traveler visitors and are welcoming these visitors as additional source of income. (Bloomberg, 07.03.19)
