McDonald’s Trials Vegan Nuggets

McDonald’s has introduced “McVegan nuggets” in Norway on a trial basis. This meat-free alternative to chicken nuggets is following the introduction to the McVegan burger in Finland and the McFalafel in Sweden. The UK also has vegan offerings, along with one location in Chicago. The vegan nuggets are made of mashed potato, chickpeas, onion, carrots and corn, covered in breadcrumbs and deep fried until crispy. The chain plans to expand its vegan efforts if their trial basis is met with praise, making meal planning and food shopping that much easier and cheaper for vegan individuals. These shifts are part of larger food trends seen globally, where more consumers are turning toward a meatless or plant-based diet.  (Elle, 03.19.19)
