Social and Communication Apps Dominate App Usage

According to worldwide research conducted by App Annie, more than 685 billion hours was spent on social and communications mobile apps in 2018, 35% more time than was spent on those apps in 2016. In the United States, the most heavily utilized social and communications apps were Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram, Facebook Messenger and Pinterest, with Facebook being the most heavily used app worldwide. Facebook Messenger had the most downloads worldwide in 2018 and YouTube was the number one video streaming app worldwide. (AdWeek, 01.16.19)
