Airbnb’s Growth Slows

According to Morgan Stanley Research, Airbnb seems to have reached its peak in most mature markets, with their biggest threat being online travel agencies (OTAs). Not only has the percentage of travelers using Airbnb decreased, but user frequency has fallen by 10%. The study also found that Airbnb now has less of an impact on hotel revenue. A problem for Airbnb has been that OTAs hold far more hotel accommodations and choices, leading to travelers to pick OTAs like Expedia over Airbnb. Despite all of this, Airbnb is still holding strong in brand awareness and has intentions to expand. (Skift, 11.14.18)
