Gas prices across the country are continuing to rise, just pennies away from reaching their highest level since 2014. Prices are on the rise nationally due to strengthening global economies and international politics which have boosted oil prices.
This spells trouble for midterm elections in some areas, as gas prices are a top-of-mind issue. In California, voters are deciding whether or not to repeal their 12-cent a gallon gas tax which is used to fund road and bridge repairs. Mayor Eric Garcetti of Los Angeles says this tax is important for travel, stating he “would rather pay a few cents more at the pump than to a mechanic” for car repairs from poor road conditions.
