Emerging Market Travel

Outbound travel from emerging markets like China and India is on the rise, and the emerging world consumer is beginning to change the travel industry. With the Chinese travel market estimated to hit 224 million travelers by 2024, it’s no surprise that countries are competing to bring the new travel markets, along with their spending power, to their home turf. Shopping is the top traveler priority according to the Commerce Department’s National Travel and Tourism Office, followed closely by fine dining and sightseeing. U.S. hotels have already started to woo Chinese travelers, by offering menus in Chinese as well as food items they’ll recognize. (Foreign Policy, 8.23.17)
