Awareness of VR & AR on the Rise

A recent report from Nielsen found that awareness of virtual and augmented reality (VR and AR) nearly doubled from 28% in 2015 to 51% among the general U.S. population. While adoption is still relatively low, the study found that VR/AR is most appealing among U.S. gamers. Nearly half of those interested are Millennials and 69% are male, and not surprisingly, are motivated by new technology. Nielsen reports that adoption to date is more limited by awareness than accessibility since there are many low-cost options already on the market. As VR becomes more mainstream with experiences ranging from horror games to tourism, consumer interest is likely to follow. (Nielsen, 6.8.17)
