AI Moves to Hotel Industry

Best Western is the next hotel chain to begin testing artificial intelligence-powered smart speakers in guest rooms. The company will use Amazon Dot devices in a pilot program for 12 properties. Guests will be able to use the Dot for wake-up calls, playing music and communicating with the hotel—like ordering room service or reporting room issues. Hotel staff will also be able to use the Dot for communicating if rooms are clean or need additional maintenance. According to CEO David Kong, the Dot is affordable and customizable—and it’s where he believes the industry is heading. “The Amazon Alexa, to me, is the future,” he said. “Right now, people are into messaging but in the future it’s going to be artificial intelligence and voice activation.” (Skift, 6.7.17)
