Airbnb Trips Experiences Growth

One year after its official debut, Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky has deemed Airbnb Trips a success. Since the launch, the number of “Experiences” has grown to 3,100 in 40 cities across 26 countries. The term “Experiences” is used to describe these shorter, peer-to-peer led activities that cost an average of $55 per person to book. While Airbnb initially sold these Experiences as unique, data suggests consumers are utilizing Airbnb Trips for more conventional activity categories. Nearly one-third (29%) of bookings fall under the food and drink category, followed by the arts (14%) and sports (10%). While exact figures were not cited, interestingly around 10% of people who book these Experiences are locals. And, most people who use Airbnb Trips are in a group and under the age of 35.
