The End of Lost Luggage

Delta now uses RFID technology to reduce lost baggage claims

Delta fliers may soon be able to cross ‘lost luggage’ off their list of travel woes. Delta will invest $50 million in a new and improved real-time baggage tracking system, the first of all U.S. carriers to make such a move. In the Radio Frequency ID (RFID) system, a two-way transmitter communicates with tags attached to luggage, enabling superior tracking throughout travel time and even offering updates to users of Delta’s mobile app. Initial trial runs of the new system return a 99.9% tracking success rate. Delta’s improvements follow an impressive 10-year history when their mishandled luggage rate declined by 68%. (Tech Times, 05.05.2016)
